We are delighted to announce our site at Thornton Cleveleys, Lancashire, has been shortlisted as one of the finalists in the Chartered Institute of Waste Management Awards for Environmental Excellence in the category of Product Use.

CIWM_finalistThis award recognises the use of sustainable (re-used, recycled, down cycled or natural) materials in a construction project.

Churngold is subcontractor to Principal Contractor W2R in the construction of one of the UK’s first operational Central Waste Treatment Facilities that integrates waste sorting systems and proven anaerobic waste digestion technologies.

The Client specified concrete drainage kerb. Churngold offered an alternative product manufactured from 100% recycled waste plastic. The alternative product was easier to handle, quicker to install and actually generated a cost saving compared to the originally specified product.

The finalists for Construction & Demolition: Product Use award are:

  • Churngold
  • Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions
  • Laing O'Rourke

All the winners will be announced at a ceremony which takes place at the Dorchester Hotel on Wednesday 11 November.
