Churngold starts work on new school in Cardiff

On the 19th March 2021, an alternative Socially Distanced ground-breaking ceremony was held on site for the new Fitzalan High School in Cardiff. 

The new £64.3m school is jointly funded by Cardiff City Council and the Welsh Government, with Kier Construction being the main contractor for the project.  Cardiff Council’s Leader and cabinet member for education, employment and skills Cllr Sarah Merry and First Minister for Wales Mark Drakeford were in attendance to mark the occasion. 

Director for Wales, Martin Best said “ Churngold Construction are delighted to be working closely with Kier Construction once again on delivering this purpose-built school which will provide an excellent learning environment and exceptional facilities for both the pupils and the community.  Our works began on site on March 1st, with good progress being made during so far, and we look forward to continuing the excellent working relationship we have with Kier and completing this project hopefully having exceeded all expectations.
