Following the appointment by Tata Steel UK, and working alongside their Construction Manager, Sir Robert McAlpine.

Churngold was appointed to undertake the creation of the piling mat for the new “state of the art” Electric Arc Furnace (EAF). The package included the cutting and turning of existing ground down to 3 metres, removal of any obstructions  and then create piling mat for the new Electric Arc furnace (EAF).

Key work carried out

Churngold Successfully managed

  • Reduce excavation to 3 metres from existing ground levels, whilst keeping water levels under control.

  • Removal of all fused slag deposits.

  • Removal of existing sheet piles fused after being installed for over 50 years.

  • Removal of all concrete obstructions, both known and unknown.

  • Create piling mat that satisfies the client and design requirements. 

  • Carrying out earthworks activities in line with environmental constraints to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the nature and habitants within the area.

  • High-risk activities being delivered safely while the project remains live.

  • Works progressed in line with the project programme.
