FAQ

  • What is land remediation and when is it needed?

Remediation is required when land is affected by contamination from previous use (e.g. fuel, heavy metals, asbestos), making it unsuitable or unsafe for development without treatment.

  • What are the main methods used?

This depends on the type of contamination. Common methods include excavation, stabilisation, soil washing, and biological treatment.

  • Who determines when a site is safe?

Validation is signed off by the local planning authority, usually in consultation with an environmental consultant and the Environment Agency.
