UXO detection and management

On sites with a history of wartime activity, unexploded ordnance presents a serious safety and programme risk. Churngold coordinates UXO risk assessments and detection surveys as part of the enabling works programme, working alongside accredited UXO specialists.

Risk is assessed during the pre construction phase using desk studies, historical mapping, and where necessary, non intrusive and intrusive detection surveys. Findings inform the safe system of work for the rest of the enabling phase, including exclusion zones, watching briefs and emergency response protocols.

Earthworks and material re-engineering

Many enabling works packages include an earthworks element, whether that is bulk excavation, site levelling, cut and fill or material re-engineering. Churngold manages earthworks within the enabling scope, keeping the transition between site preparation and main construction seamless.
